New tools enable systems admins to identify cost savings by calculating specific backup sizing requirements and eliminating extraneous storage

BURLINGTON, Mass. , September 8, 2014

Unitrends today introduced a pair of free tools that offer complete visibility into storage and file capacity and utilization, enabling organizations to identify significant cost savings. Unitrends’ Backup Capacity and Storage Inventory Tools are designed to help systems administrators determine how much storage to allocate for backups and which files are critical to back up. These new tools offer a comprehensive, single point-in-time snapshot of storage and files across entire data centers, enabling administrators to calculate current backup sizing requirements, and avoid backing up unnecessary files or running out of storage space.

The Unitrends Backup Capacity Tool enables systems administrators to capture a complete snapshot of all data center files residing on storage devices and servers, and view file-level information that can be used to plan, construct and schedule backups. Providing detailed summary reports for backup planning, this non-invasive and secure tool gives organizations visibility into their file utilization to optimize backup management processes.

The Unitrends Storage Inventory Tool gives administrators immediate visibility into their entire storage environment, enabling them to accurately see how storage assets are being used and where they are stretched to capacity. The free tool automatically synthesizes vast quantities of storage data and summarizes findings in easy-to-digest, detailed reports.

“Our new free reporting tools provide the visibility and insight that is critical for systems administrators tasked with managing dynamic backup and recovery demands with limited time and budget,” said Mark Campbell, chief strategy and technology officer, Unitrends. “These easy-to-use tools give them a complete snapshot of their entire backup and storage environments as well as access to dozens of management-ready reports they can use to make better decisions.”

In July, Unitrends launched BC/DR Link™, a free online service tool that enables companies worldwide to quickly and easily build a comprehensive disaster recovery plan. The service also includes one gigabyte of centralized storage in the Unitrends cloud, which companies can use to house essential disaster recovery and business continuity documents.
